As a young man, founder Michael de la Place experienced the remarkable comfort of a traditional European down duvet while visiting his family. At a time when duvets were virtually unknown in North America, he discovered how dramatically premium bedding could improve sleep. That experience inspired a lifelong passion for creating luxurious bedding that combines warmth, softness, and exceptional comfort.

Michael's appreciation for fine textiles was also influenced by his family. His grandmother, a talented designer, inspired him to value craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail—qualities that continue to define St. Genève today.

Together with Annette de la Place, Michael founded St. Genève with a vision of bringing world-class luxury bedding to Canadian homes.
